Split Pea Soup

  • 4 cups vegetable broth
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 pound bag split peas
  • 1/2 cup cubed ham
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1 small onion, diced
  •  1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp. sage
  • salt and pepper to taste

Sort and rinse peas.  Bring broth, water, peas, and ham to a boil.  Reduce heat and simmer 1 hour.  Add carrot, onion, garlic, bay leaf, and sage.  Simmer 1 hour, or until desired consistency.  Remove bay leaf and season with salt and pepper to taste.
